How to link a 3D model to the footprint in Fusion 360?
Please follow these steps to link a 3D model to the footprint:
Open the 3D Model by clicking on the File icon, then pressing Open.
You can now click on Open from my computer... where you can locate the 3D model on your drive. After pressing Open again, the file will open on Fusion 360.
Save the new file in your main project folder. For this case, we used the Admin Project.
After opening the library in the Library Manager by following this tutorial here, click on the Packages tab.
**NOTE: If any package exists, please right-click on the package and delete it. If not, proceed to the next step.Please go to the Footprints tab, and right-click over the footprint. Click on Create New 3D Model.
Go to the Data Panel at the top left, and then select your project. For this case, we used the Admin Project.
Drag and drop your 3D model to open it over your footprint. You can use the Move/Copy dialog box to place it over the footprint and save the file.
Rotating a 3D model to the footprint plane
If the downloaded 3D model is rotated in relation to the footprint plane. you can follow the next steps:
Hide the footprint by clicking the eye icon next to Sketches in the Browser Tree.
Select the 3D model, go to the SOLID tab, then select Move/Copy in the Modify toolbar - Or press ‘M’ on the keyboard. This will open the Move/Copy dialog box.
Select Rotate as the Move Type, then click on Origin, to select the main axis of rotation (X,Y,Z). Type the rotation angle in the required axis, then click OK.
Unhide the footprint by clicking the eye icon next to Sketches in the Browser Tree, then press Ctrl+S, to save this package change on the Library.
